SLD UB Suggests the Involvement of Disabled People and Their Organizations in Establishment of Disability Service Units

Yogyakarta-On Friday-Saturday, 22-23 September 2023, the Directorate of Community and Special Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia organized the Preparation of Technical Guidance Materials for the Establishment of Disability Service Units.

Kegiatan tersebut diselenggarakan di Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta, dengan dihadiri berbagai perwakilan unit layanan disabilitas di tingkat kabupaten dan provinsi.

Ketua Subdirektorat Layanan Disabilitas Universitas Brawijaya, Zubaidah Ningsih AS., PhD., mengisi salah satu sesi dalam kegiatan yang diselenggarakan selama dua hari tersebut.

Together with the Disability Service Unit of Surakarta City, Zubaidah explained how a disability service unit is established and function in a university. Due to the different contexts and areas of management, she also emphasized the outline of what the unit in local government need to have and know.

"The involvement of people with disabilities in disability service unit is very important. That will be the real core of the units, because with that the unit can continue to evaluate itself and not lose value," she said in the ULD best practice sharing session.

Di sesi terpisah, Jonna Damanik, komisioner Komisi Nasional Disabilitas Republik Indonesia yang turut hadir dalam kegiatan ini, menegaskan pertanyataan ketua SLD UB.

“Lihat sekarang bagaimana UB dengan layanan disabilitasnya, itu karena keterlibatan difabel yang kuat dalam organisasinya,” ucap Bang Jonna, panggilan akrabnya.
